He recalls his early twenties, always trying to save money, living in cheap rentals, getting by to save up to pay for a trip to Nepal for serveral weeks.

This apparently is just something all Idahoian white water junkies have to do at least once in their lives.

He credits his parents, especially his mom for his adventurous spirit.  Joe also talks about how he got into writing and journalism covering local high school sporting events for the local newspaper, which eventually lead to a job for Canoe and Kayak Magazine.  Joe’s first experience on a SUP was on an inflatable( before they were what they are today), he recalls thinking “this is really awesome” considering his first demo was on an inflatable in Idaho, Stand Up Paddling took a hold of his soul (that’s Leslie’s take on it).
